Prosecutors Plan to Call Armorer to Testify

Prosecutors in the involuntary manslaughter case against actor Alec Baldwin are expected to call Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed to the stand on Friday. The move comes after Baldwin pleaded not guilty to the charges earlier this year.

Baldwin's Conduct Under Scrutiny

Prosecutors allege that Baldwin acted recklessly on the set of the film "Rust" when he fired a gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Specifically, they say that he failed to check if the gun was loaded, pointed it at Hutchins without her consent, and discharged it without preparing for the recoil.

Baldwin Contests Charges

Baldwin's attorneys have denied the allegations, arguing that he was acting on the direction of the film's assistant director, Dave Halls, who allegedly told him the gun was "cold" (i.e., unloaded). They also contend that Baldwin did not intend to kill or harm anyone.

Trial Set to Begin

The trial is scheduled to begin on March 6, 2023, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Baldwin faces a maximum of 18 months in prison if convicted.
